More information about Sumatran Elephants:
The evolution of elephants began around 55 million years ago in North Africa. Over time, more than 300 species of elephants have been documented. It's hard to believe that only two species have survived: the African elephant and the Asian elephant. Compared to the African elephant, the Asian elephant is slightly smaller and has smaller ears. The Sumatran elephant is one of the three subspecies of the Asian elephant. Only about 2,500 of these elephants remain on the island of Sumatra, and they are considered critically endangered, alongside the Sumatran orangutan, the Sumatran tiger, and the Sumatran rhinoceros. The primary threat to the Sumatran elephants is the drastic loss of their habitat, as forests are cleared and converted into plantations for paper and palm oil production. This makes it all the more important for us to choose products made from recycled paper and palm oil-free food and cosmetics.
